Polka Dot Orchard – National Coffee Day
I was super excited to be invited by Polka Dot Orchard to this years’ Instagram Hop for National Coffee Day., This will be happening Sunday 29th September – so make sure you check it out.
Polka Dot Orchard has joined in with several other companies to hop along in honor of National Coffee Day. This fun event is being hosted by the Coffee Loving Paper Crafters Group. Not only are we hopping along with so many lovely companies, we are along doing a hop with our very talented design team to show off many amazing projects created from our newest release. Polka Dot Orchard is doing a few giveaways too. For more information on the giveaways and the full line up for both hops head over to the Polka Dot Orchard blog.
Naturally it’s coffee themed but I was mesmerised by one of PDO’s new Digi Files – Stand Tall! This gorgeous giraffe became the focal point of my card – but I did keep to the theme 🙂 I used the leaves from their Leaves and Latte’s Digi Set too.
It all started with the giraffe – colouring him in shades of yellow/orange and browns. Now I’m the first to admit, colouring is NOT one of my strengths, but the Digi Sets from PDO are perfect for this. The shading and detail make it so easy to make the image come to life! I then used Distress Glaze to coat him and make him watertight. The sentiment was just so cute, I couldn’t resist using this and coating in Nuvo Glimmer Paste.
I had a whole lot of fun with the leaves from the Leaves & Latte Set – I printed the full page view, coloured in different shades for different styles, before fussy cutting out being sure to leave a large white border around to make a ‘comical’ feel to the leaves.
Once the colouring and cutting was done, the card came together super quick. I used a 5x5inch card, covered with card stock with my stash. I wanted to make the giraffe really pop so I added dimension with some foam stickers and centred him on the card. The sentiment strip placement was an easy decision, which was also backed by card stock from my stash.
I positioned the leaves around the card initially just to make sure I had the coloured evenly scattered throughout, as well as making sure there were enough to cover the card Once I was happy with this, I used my tape runner to adhere them to the card – then voila – my card is complete. I love the combination of the realistic giraffe and the ‘cartoon’ leaves. Of course, if you prefer a more traditional look, the leaves could be blended more realistic too to match the giraffe.
